Wordswell is a Canadian non-profit organization created in 2007 by a group of young adults, many studying to be teachers, doctors and community workers, concerned about their younger peers who were transitioning a crucial stage of life in a time when society is experiencing rapid and significant change. Wordswell offers programs primarily for junior youth, those between the ages of 12 and 14, who live in a world with vast opportunities undreamt of in previous generations and grave dangers.
Our programs focus on strengthening the power of expression – literacy, comprehension and eloquent speech – and critical thinking, helping youth to recognize the moral implications of speech and action and aiding them to make sound life decisions.
To build and sustain truly prosperous communities in a time of rapid global change certainly depends to a great extent on the effectiveness of the preparations the youth make for the world they will inherit. All our programs are offered with the conviction that junior youth and youth represent a vast reservoir of energy that can be directed toward the advancement of civilization. When encouraged and properly guided they grow up to be among the most valuable human resources in a community.
